Jeff Cochran

I am very excited to rejoin the Selah community-- Selah has always held a special place in my heart since beginning my teaching career here in 2007. I firmly believe that our role as educators is to find the support that students and families need and then create innovative support solutions to create lasting change. Our school communities must reflect the changing landscape of what “work” looks like and our classrooms should support student growth.

During my high school “Senior Project” I shadowed an elementary school counselor; impassioned about helping others with struggles and eager to help make students their best selves, this experience led me to my first Bachelor degree from Central Washington University: Psychology with an emphasis on adolescence. While I felt school counseling could be in my future, I felt myself drawn to the classroom--wanting to have more of a direct connection with students. This led to my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education, also from CWU.

My first full year teaching English was at Selah High School. I taught 10th grade English, Advanced Placement Language, and Senior English, among others. After 5 years at SHS I taught at Ellensburg High School, later becoming a district administrator. I received my fist Master of Arts in Athletic Administration from CWU and later received a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University. I spent several years at the Director of Educational Technology and Community Outreach before becoming the Principal of Excel Alternative High School in Ellensburg. All of these experiences combine to show me the importance of support of both the student and family to create a cohesive and supportive educational system.

As the Director of Futures and Assistant Principal at SHS my goal is provide rich experiences for students that lead to impassioned careers.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to say hi at any time!
